Summary/Annotations
|
My
article was on the "future of the associates degree in Nursing".
Several hospitals have started to require that the nurses they hire have a
bachelor’s degree and other hospitals will soon follow. Many New York
lawmakers are in support of this and have requested the “BS in 10” law which
if passed will require that if a nurse does not already have a bachelor in
nursing they will be required to obtain it within 10 years. In contrast, due
to the drastic nursing shortage, ADN nurses are still needed in non-hospital
settings.

Quotes
|
“What
sets the two degrees apart? The amount of ground covered, for one thing” (Paragraph
2).
“Whereas
around 35% of nurses had attained BSNs as of 2008, 55% were BSN-credentialed
in 2013, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing”
(Paragraph 4)
“The
state legislature has held hearings on a proposed “BS in 10” law, which would
require nurses who don’t already have bachelor’s degrees to earn them within
their first 10 years of practice” (Paragraph 5)

Assessment
|
The
Nursing Licensure is dedicated to informing
its reader on license requirements in different states and different information
on nursing as a career. They are a .org rather than a .com which shows they
are more credible but might have a slight bias.

Reflection
|
My research question is, how can you become successful with a nursing degree? This article helps me to understand what each degree is so that my later research will be more effective.
